STAR TREK:
EXPLORING
NEW WORLDS

EMP Museum / 2016

PROJECT TEAM / Art Direction + Design: Jeffrey Underwood / Design: Sabin Arditty / Photography: Brady Harvey + Sabin Arditty /

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek phenomenon and its cultural impacts, this world premiere exhibit at EMP Museum features more than 100 artifacts, set pieces and props from the five television series, spinoffs and films.

Working with franchise and institutional stakeholders on the marketing campaign for the exhibit, I developed a dual approach program—character portraits and episodic key art—that utilized the iconic delta insignia as a dimensional window into the diverse worlds of Star Trek. The delta shape, in full as well as cropped and expanded, appears as an immediately recognizable shape that unifies the character/episodic visual directions in print and digital campaign materials. A bold color palette derived from uniforms and other props found throughout the exhibit visually leads the duotone character scheme, while inverting priority and becoming background context within the episodic scheme.
